The Most Exciting 2 Minutes…..
Come out to the 19th Hole at the Country Club and get ready for some equestrian fun. We will have pools for the race, as well as Trifectas and Quinellas. Come out and place some bets on your favorites.
And, new this year, will be a Derby Hat Contest! We’re sure while watching the Derby you have seen the many extravagant hats worn and thought “I wouldn’t be caught dead in that getup,” but now, you can do it for fun. We will let the crowd pick the winners and have valuable (?) prizes and, more importantly, annual bragging rights as the Inaugural Winner. So don’t be topless. Don your favorite headgear and “throw your hat into the ring”.
We will, as always, have some tasty Kentucky snacks like country ham sandwiches and special Derby drinks. The kitchen will not be open Saturday, so feel free to bring some goodies to share. Derby pie, Bourbon balls, Kentucky Hot Browns, chocolate bourbon pecan pie, just to name a few. Mint Juleps are a Derby staple but, as you all know, Kentucky is known for its Bourbon, so it will be an excellent time to sample some of the offerings the 19th Hole has to offer.
This will be THE EVENT of 2016 (so far) and you will not want to sit alone in your stall missing it. Bring your gambling stash, a healthy thirst and at least a two minute span of attention. (My horse is winning, my horse is winning only an 1/8 mile to go – Oh look, a chicken.)
So again –
Saturday – May 7
3:00 p.m. – ???????
Nineteenth Hole, Fairfield Golf and Country Club
Race Time – 5:30 p.m.
Hat Judging – 5:15 p.m. or 6:15 p.m.
In the past, the party didn’t end there – we had some Master DJs spinning songs, some Derby Dancing and more beverages – so don’t double book thinking you will be able to catch the Lawrence Welk reruns on PBS that night.
You may win, you may post, but you had better show or you will no doubt regret it the rest of your life. (You don’t want to be laying there, in your death bed, saying “If I had only gone to the 142nd Derby Party at the 19th Hole, cough, cough, gasp…..”) You get it, be there.
